Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood in The West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" spot. The people who aren't familiar with this term tend to think it's a distinct island that lies west of Montreal However, in reality it's a part of the city that's west. West Island is home to all things from the City of Lachine west. Amanda Brugel is said to have been born on the West Island. But this isn't the case. Brugel grew-up in Courtice close to Oshawa in Ontario. Initial plans were to be the best performer in the world, however, she literally outgrew the dance partners. She admitted in an article that was published in The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall when wearing heels. Once I had outgrown my male counterparts I stopped. Some former dancers switch to acting, and in Brugel's case it was a nudge from the drama instructor at her high school who encouraged her to go towards the right path. The teacher suggested that she go after a role in the school's annual production. The student tried it out, and eventually got the lead in Anne of Green Gables. This Fine Arts Talent Scholarship led her to York University, where she studied Theatre and received an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts in the year 2000. In the last 20 years her career has seen her appear in over 60 films and television productions. The most well-known role was that of Rita (shown beneath) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel, the only Canadian for the Season 1 The Handmaid's Tale cast and only seen occasionally was the sole Canadian.
